The Mask
A smile etched here upon my face,
announcing this is me.
Inside I cry my heart it breaks,
and yet no one can see.
A twinkle in my eye I have placed,
to deceive those who I love.
Yet here within my soul I feel the call,
of freedom up above.
A laugh I've painted into the picture,
that hangs upon the wall.
If you look a little closer though,
you'll see, it's not a laugh at all.
A song I sing to make them think,
that maybe I feel better.
Still myself I can't deceive,
for the heart it feels the fetter.
A moment spent in quiet thought,
it brings me back to you,
and having remembered I dream again,
and paint my world pale blue.
Thank you Rich.
