The Mistress of Word Play

He saw her waiting beside the water,
and for a moment he began to falter,
but yet his love did spur the prince on,
the witch would tell or her life would be gone.

The witch seeing the look in his eye,
turned to run and attempted to fly,
yet the prince grasped her ashen skin,
and threatened to plunge the dagger in.

With this the witch pleaded with him,
she bartered and cried, her chances were slim.
Fearing death she finally gave him the key,
and the prince did release, and watched her flee.

Now, he could save her, his Queen so fair,
and the sweetness of life, the two could share.
So onto his brave charger and away he did go,
to the castle of ice in the land of snow.

Onward he did ride.
He had the key at his side.
He would claim his fair bride.
