Reflections of My Perceptions

9-11 (5th anniversary)

this poem will not bring back those who fell
the new york skyline will still seem to be in need of something else
those who were there will not forget that acrid smell
ones who feel guilty will still wish they'd been lost themselves
some will find not find peace no matter how deep they delve
many will continue to endure sleepless nights, awoken by the screams and yells
it will not change the fates of couples who chose to meet theirs, hands held
for those who suffered losses, this poem will not crack misery's shell
many of the rescuers who were exposed will still experience poor health
the sounds of the towers collapsing, for some, yet will ring like bells
for most of the nation, the pain will remain, far deeper than any well
the sight of manhattan on that day will not be erased from your brain's cells
the soldiers killed in Afghanistan will still be bound by death's spell
this poem will not cause the thirst for more blood to be quelled
in the hearts of too many, hatred will yet dwell
reading it will not lead to further hateful thoughts and actions being repelled
for those who stared death in the face, they will yet have a tale to tell
these words will not displace the sense of senselessness we felt on 9-12
all this poem wants to do is to remind you of that day of hell
and serve as further insurance that its memory knows no knell
