What Happened?

My eyes blink rapidly,
my lashes attempt to brush away
the sordid vision before me.
So much hope denied
by a one dimensional existence.
Tonight's full moon whispers
the sad reality
of your plunge into
desperation and dysfunction.
On the eve of your birthday,
my dreams for you go unrealized,
your full potential squandered
by poor choices.
My efforts to raise your spirit
to its highest level
have failed,
leaving you clinging desperately
to an unreal world of playful deviants.
My birthday gift to you
is total detachment and sweet release,
allowing you the freedom
to perform your death spiral
without judgement.
Happy Birthday!
