 My Highest Good

I slowly wipe tears of sadness
from my swollen cheek.
I have vacillated far too long
between what I desire
and my highest good.
My heart wrenching choice
to travel the high road
and leave behind what works no more,
hurls me into a place
of loneliness and isolation.
My heart calmly reassures me,
as I reticently move toward
a new space of hope and laughter,
something I have been sorely missing
far too long.
A tiny smile curls my lip
as my future sharpens before my eyes.
With one last nostalgic glance
behind me
and a softly whispered "I love you",
I leap forward into a new world
where all my dreams patiently await.
