I am only polished to a certain degree
because I am a table made of Mahogany.
I have extended ends that fold,
and I am proud to say I am two hundred years old.
When I am dressed for a function I really am a winner
especially when there is an important dinner.
A pure white cloth made of linen and lace
with crispy white napkins to wipe your hands and face.Silver cutlery as old as me and they also have to be polished to a certain degree.Goblets of crystal for water and wine,everything gleaming and looking divine.Single stemmed roses in white china vases reflecting on the chandelier and the clear crystal glasses.
Side plates made from fine bone china,really I couldn't be dressed any finer.
I have six fine chairs who just call me a table
but everyone has a place setting with a name on it's label.
There are two old carvers with ball and claw feet,
I cannot understand why they are only a seat.
Brass fitted wheels they call a caster but they must be
reserved for the mistress and master.
The door is opened and in come the guests it's now time for the servants to be at their best.
When dinner is over I am packed all away
waiting to get done up for another special day;
so on it goes year after year with the same good will and the same good cheer.
