Dignity & Grace

Dignity & Grace

What is grace?
What is dignity?
What is decorum?
Or nobility?

What does it truly mean to be noble?
And are there really any people left in this world that are theses things?
Where are they?
Or are they only left now to our imaginations because this world won't abide their goodness?
We shoot them down
We murder them
We plot their demise
We see them as imperfect and then,
our projections eventually break them down.
The reality of the masses are like that,
You know.

How are they?
They are compassionate.

They will tell you:
To allow an opponent to anger you
Breaks down your decorum
Your credibility…

Their responses hold such incredible graciousness.
I am awed by them.

Diana, Julie, Gandhi, King, and dearest Mother Theresa, to name a few.

They are able to stand in grace
And pause
As the world often does not
And lives in their impulsivity
For the one who breathes
Through the social pain
And see through to the other side
Wins hearts
Not just minds.
And the first is far more valuable.

For to win a heart
By acting with grace
And dignity
Will go further
Than any other soul
Who is paid
Who is blackmailed
Who is forced
Who is ordered
Who is motivated by debate
Or logic

Hearts won,
Will fight to the death
Will overcome insurmountable odds
Will inspire to go on when all hope is lost
Will be ingenious in their pursuit
Will break thresholds and boundaries never dreamed of
Will create miracles in the darkest hours…

Where are these hero's and heroines?
A man with much nobility and grace once said,
“You must be the change you wish to see it the world.”

So don't look to our politicians
So don't look to our clergy
So don't look to our sports hero's
So don't look to our movie stars
So don't look to our CEO's
For the world is not the way we wish it to be
By any of their hands
We can't blame them for the world not being the way we wish it
For we have given our dignity
Our grace
Our nobility
Away to them.

So instead
Look in the mirror
Take any image of dignity
or of nobility
Take any image of grace
or of decorum
And look in the mirror
And see it within yourself.

For there is only one person who can inspire
The people who act with heart
And change the world
They sit before us
They sit beside us
They sit within us
And live in the mirror
Before us every day.

May we be gracious
May we be noble
When the world screams and projects otherwise
May we pause
And breathe
And see with eyes of grace
And act with nobility
And speak with decorum
And most importantly give dignity form in this world.
