Poetry For Everyday People

Last Kiss

This must be
what death
feels like,
a kiss to
pull it all
back, out, cold
lips, no longer tender?
a silent goodbye,
lost eyes unable to
find beauty in anything,
as some part of you hopes
it's temporary, that you'll
love the rain again, smell
flowers and smile,

how does true love part?
does true love part?

emotional investments
are without a doubt
the most brutal of all,
when you can't see the
sky, taste food, when
all you have inside you
feels empty, just memories
and bones, cloth in the back
seat, dog in the passenger seat,
no place to go, no friend,

no Christmas.
