The Mistress of Word Play

There are those memories
in our lives we tend to ignore.
Restlessly searching for
those times we experienced before.
Yet like a book when we
finally reach the very end
we scrutinize each item
at times willing to defend.

There are those things we regret saying,
things we may have done.
A smile we at times might have brought,
teardrops shared with someone.
Writing our story each day
into the journal which God gave
at times attempting to forget,
then other times we try to save.

Embedded images of a special love
shared once long ago
Some parts of our life hidden,
other moments we might show.
Now we see the bitterness of
lonely hours a desperate plea
and unrelenting we turn the page
to make the vision flee.

Each new day our lives
expand and sometimes they contract.
The scenery changes rapidly
we impatiently move to the next act.
From cover to cover contained
upon and within each page
Are the roles and parts we
have played on life's eternal stage.
