The Mistress of Word Play

I prayed today on election day
that God intercede
so the chaos and violence in the world
would finally recede.
I had heard each
and every delegate
Sling their mud
and unceremoniously restate
Why they should be elected.

The propaganda on my phone
and even in my mail
had given me a bad attitude,
guess I became a hard sale.
This morning I prayed
so very long and hard
all those animosities
we could dispatch, discard
To make sure the right people are selected.

It seems the more intelligence
we consume
we push away common sense
and it leaves no room
for people to contemplate
and scrutinize
we would rather argue
the if and whys
of each and every ill.

All things in life
will continue to digress
if we as Christians do not start
to place the emphasis
on more earnest prayer
and holy contemplation
we will never see an improvement
in this our nation
until we submit to God's will.
