God's Most Beautiful Angel-A Mother's Grief

My Birthday

My Birthday

The candles burned bright.
45 of them lit up the place.
My loved ones voices sweet and light.
Happy birthday they sang…a smile on my face.

Blowing out the candles was not a big deal.
The smallest one clapped as the grownups looked on.
They’re wondering what did she wish for? What does she feel?
I put on my happy face…lord what a con.

As I blew out the candles my mind went to her.
I held it together. Shed no tears what an act.
My first birthday without you and my heart was a blur.
Inside me a war raged tumultuous in fact.

My birthday and my life go on. Tomorrow will be a new day.
What sanctimonious crap.
I’m still searching…trying to find my way.
Scrambling to get out of this trap.
