My dad had rented a rowboat
I had loaded the fishing gear last night
The whole family would use the boat
Life preservers and live bait
I was just 7 and I couldn't wait
But father said to bed its getting late
Did what I was told went to bed
I tried to sleep but to no avail
Everyone sleeping looking dead
About the time, I haven't a clue
My heart pounding, I crept out of bed
Thinking, if I got caught, well that wouldn't do
I grabbed my clothes and crawled out the door
Was going fishing now regardless of night or day
Like an adventure not knowing what was in store
By the dim moonlight I entered the boat,
Put on my preserver, pulled the straps tight
If I fell in the river I would float
When I rowed the pivots squeaked
Reminded me of nails being dragged on a chalkboard
The hairs on my neck began to peak
I rowed across the river to some old stump
The water was rippling and sometimes it broke
Even saw some big fish jump
I cast my line in by the that stump
My bobber popped up and down
Against my boat was a big bump
It pealed off my fishing line
All the way to the end and SNAP!!!!
He was enjoying my nite crawler just fine
Well that wouldn't do
I picked up my father's pole
Where he had been I cast it too
He was hungry because he hit that bait too
But ii had expected him this time
I sunk the hook but, with the line he flew
I kept on winding him in he went under the boat
I grabbed the big net stuck it down side in the water
Well I felt it shake, finally grabbed him in my coat
How big was he you think?
He was a 11” sized bass
They laughed at me, I turned pink
3 different times I entered fishing Contest
And caught more pan fish than I could string
One time a big snapping turtle
And a bigger bass
No one laughed, I was now 9
The size was 16 inch large mouth bass.
