REFLECTIONS ON A WATERMELON
REFLECTIONS ON WATERMELON
Summer swelter
My body drenched
I reach for the last slice
Bright and pink
My tongue probes the seeds
'Til they fall into my mouth
The boys see
Who can spit the farthest
But I am just a girl
Instead, after ridding my seeds
"Like a girl"
I once more let my tongue
Delve into the depths
Breaking off pieces
To dissolve in my mouth
Mmmm. sticky, sweet nectar
Dribbles down my chin
Onto my fingers
Succulent and wet
Oh, sooo cool in my mouth
Sooo refreshing
After the last swallow
I slowly run my tongue
Along the rind
Savoring any last juice
Then… one… by… one…
I suck… my fingers… dry
