My inner child she understood
Why although there was hardly seen
She also knew just what it was
To hold in silent screams.
She was also familiar
To seek the safety of the womb
Dark, peaceful and gentle there
Just like a tiny tomb.
An existence in the darkness
A pulse consumed with pain
Even though so small in years
So big was the need to change.
This child exists inside me now
Lost and bewildered at who I am
Are these feelings reality
Or from a past where I became.
A person so confused and hurt
So full of fright instead
Those were the times I gave up hope
And wished that I was dead.
My inner child she knows why
I have to move ahead
She tells me she is the echoes
Of things inside my head.
Yes she's here she has to be
She is the main part of me
But she is waiting patiently
For me to set her free.
To think that she is leaving me
Fills me with despair
I don't know how I will cope
Without her being there.
She whispers very gently now
And calmly to me
I am always part of you
Of one we will always be.
Go forward, I'll be with you
I will live inside your soul
Forever you will have me
Now freedom should be your goal.
Freedom now to have a voice
Say just who you are
Show others what you're made of
Be proud of who you are.
And although always here with you
You fly far ahead
Having wisdom in your wings
Not just echoes in your head.
You're a woman she says to me
One who has come a long way
Together we lived those past years
We will see many brand new days.
These days will show a person
Whose strength is there to see
She is whole, an adult now
Her little one is set free.
