Special nightThe wind blew and howled The frustration grew as the snow piled up We had shoveled and shoveled ~ After a bit we were feeling the cold in our feet We had no power and the sun was about to set The fireplace was our only source of heat ~ The kids had been playing on our hill JOE my puppy had a little spill He had been riding the sled to the bottom of the hill ~ Sledding, snow coasting, getting their fill The kids and him all taking turns Up and down for excitement and thrill after thrill ~ Candles were lit Hot chocolate was brewing Crackling of the logs they were starting to spit ~ I got out the old lantern and lit it Watched it get brighter The kids cheered, I was an instant hit ~ No TV, we all cuddled by the fire The kids and Peggy held me tight We sang old songs till we begin to tire ~ I will always remember our night by the fire JDW©2007 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
