Greatest Regret

There once was a girl filled with laughter and wit
falling in love she didn't believe in one bit.
She dated some, and had crushes on guys,
but for none would she melt when she looked in his eyes.
Many guys were her friends, but there was this one
that from all of the group she had the most fun.
This girl and this boy grew close over time,
apart they were single but together one mind.
They were together so much that they knew very well
how the other would feel, if hurt they could tell.
After a while this girl got a strange feeling inside.
she couldn't let him know, she had too much pride.
Was this girl who never knew what true bliss was
breaking down inside and falling in love?
It couldn't be that, she didn't believe in such talk.
Still, she could spot him from a mile from the way that he walked.
When he said her name she'd unconsciously smile,
and her knees failed to work for a little while.
But this wasn't happening, it couldn't be true!
Did he know how she felt, should she give him a clue?
She couldn't tell him, she just wouldn't say.
She'd keep her feelings inside day after day.
She wouldn't tell him, she'd live with the strife.
She'd be aching inside for the rest of her life.

This same girl is now a woman.  My how she has grown.
She saw a man just yesterday as a girl she had once known.
This man of whom she held so dear her heart he had once stole,
told her how he'd once loved her, she captured his very soul.
The woman stood there in utter awe as she looked into his eyes
and melted there completely, in his hands her heart there lied.
As she sat there looking into him his eyes shifted once more.
She turned around to see a woman walking through the door.
He left their spot and walked around to greet her with a kiss.
That could be me the girl realized with sweet tenderness.
The two walked out the door together, she watched them all the way
regretting she hadn't told him how she'd felt as a girl that day.
