M's Poetry

Paper

Paper

The paper is here
writing I don't want to read
lay it down but I can't forget it
the loss never leaves
why death happens...
only to give life more meaning

the blanket is folded
tucked away in a closet
collecting dust
too often...too much
death visits us

so Jesus
so sanity hold me now
everyone I love
is leaving somehow
I am filling out the lines
will it be the last one I write?

The eulogies over time
sure is piling up
but the people left
the births that happen
that's the stuff
you must live for
I am making my way
on this assembly line

The gold rings are in the case
the necklace you left me
so hard to accept
I put it around my neck
a part of you still shines
a part of you still here
just don't make me read that paper

your recliner is empty
phone turned off
so is the electricity
it never hit me so hard
life without you
is so different

so Jesus
so sanity hold me now
in the wake of loss
let me reach out
to the ones I love the most
I am filling out the lines
may it not be the last one I write
