There came a heavy rain last night
That woke me from my sleep
With all the lightning and thunder
But it cooled the summer's heat
The smell of rain was in the air
Oh how I love that smell
The rain on the roof was pounding
But inside all is well
The thirsty ground now drank its fill
Tonight would end the drought
There came a heavy rain last night
Much needed there's no doubt
The frogs are singing joyfully
The rain begins to subside
I lay back down and fall asleep
In dreams my thoughts reside
A peaceful sleep the rain has brought
While distant thunder rolls
There came a heavy rain last night
And quinched all thirsty souls!
