I walked down to the beach one night
As late as it might have been~
And down there not a single soul
Was down there to be seen~
I sat upon a spot that I knew well
Have been there many times before~
On the beach near a big old tree
Not far from the oceans floor~
I looked first there at the moon
Upon the horizon far away~
And I felt the sand I sat upon
Still warm from the warmth of day~
I felt the breeze upon my face
How I love the ocean breezes so~
And it made me a promise to
Long after I am not here to blow~
I thought about all those I love
Some here some gone away~
Silence kept me company
How I wished that there I could stay~
I noticed ocean swells far off
Like mountains out to sea~
And all the smaller ones closer
As they all came nearer there to me~
The moon hung on for lasting shine
As it slowly sunk into the night~
And I felt as if it was all for me
Every movement every single sight~
I watched the smallest waves come to say hello
And then they gave away for more~
As endless other smallest waves
All bowed hello and then died on shore~
As I sat alone I thought of all
The things I'd done in my life long~
And I knew that I'd been tested so
And yes on the day I found a way still to be strong~
Night birds flew past on there way somewhere
As I sat there all alone~
And thought about yet more of my life
And the moon slipped away on it's way home~
The yellows still reflected proof
Of a moon that was not there~
But it had sent the last of it's light
To wish me love and care~
Then darker shades became my friend
But still there I could see~
Nomatter what was to occur
He'd still light the way for me~
