Standing Tall

I need you to hear this…
Listen carefully to the fragile sound…
The delicate rhythm of a breaking heart
that no longer beats for you.
It's a shame you never cared for me...
A pity you have no heart of your own…

You held me back from living
And it was nice then...just to be held.
You fed me with attention
I depended on you...a sad addiction..
But I'm sick now; I've had my fill

Your 'love' was fuel, now it's poison
Falling like acid tears
From eyes now blind to you
My ears are bleeding your twisted lies
They are deaf to your words

You cripple me
And though I cannot run from you
I will stand tall
Because I've finally realized
Love is not meant to hurt
And happiness exists without you
In the company of true friends
I will be okay.
