Poetry For Everyday People

Dear Nikki

I love you,
friend,
beautiful flower,
hot babe,
woman,
soul drug
poet,
night light,

you spoke to me
when the world
would not,
you talked about
the things I wanted
to know, felt,

needed clues,
you drew a map,

an all Egyptian boy
who was lost when it
came to America,
history, culture,
pulse,

you were my
Friday nights, my
Saturday nights,
my last kiss before
bed, my emergency
grab, you somehow
kissed my eyes,

I wanna taste your
cooking so bad, I
know your good, you
made me so hungry reading
some of your poems,
you filled some good
places in me,

I got all
my Egyptian recipes now,
you pick a night and I'll
bring some of my blues records,
you bring yours,

well, I better wake
myself up, I get so
lost in you,

thank you for whispering
to me that day at the
book store.
