Poetry For Everyday People

Gypsy Freak

Walking past you
as if a leaf flying by,
forgotten,
soul living ain't easy
in a world of pretenders,

too shy to take credit
or maybe I just feel
credit is too self indulgent?
but in the real world
you got to tell them
your worth my friends,
my brothers and sisters,
or they'll eat you,

I remember one night
drinking wine at the bar
writing poems on napkins,
painting mind scenes in real time,
slipping a vodka drinking girl's
flip flop back
on her right foot
after it hit the floor,
her smile,
I was so alone those days
I touched the bottom of her
foot on purpose and it felt
so good,

I lived in the bars for company,
for the philosophy, the education,
the hope splashing on the rocks, in
cold mugs, the regulars, we all
sort of knew each others stories, at
one time or another we had a good drunk
together, now we wink at each other from
across the bar, tip our hats,
respecting space,

walking past you
as if a leaf flying by,
forgotten,
soul living ain't easy
in a world of pretenders,

I find it beautiful
the people I've met,
the secrets we share
the sweet lingering
desperation
of night.
