Saturdays

Saturdays

I remeber Saturdays
visiting you in that room
the tears, the resentment
that ensued
I remeber Saturdays
more than any other day
it was the day I saw my dad
the father I still somehow loved

I remeber Saturdays
the long drives and turns
with momma cussing in road rage
the summers in no air condition
practically burning in the sun
and I couldn't wait
until things changed
but the Saturdays came
and it always remained the same.....

Always trying...wasn't we?
To make it better
though never a break through
and I kept all your cards and letters
hoping one day
you would came back
and stay better
so many boxes full
so many Saturdays
in the books.....

A change finally made
but it wasn't you, it was me
I made the choice
in letting go it was okay
because my attention
belonged elsewhere
a child of my own
with the pain slowly getting gone
is how I want to remeber
the rest of my Saturdays.....
