Youthful Spirits. (M.P.Bridger)Remember when you realised you'd seen the last of school And getting butterflies in your stomach, started that first job? Remember what it was to carry your dreams in your heart, To watch them grow or perish? Remember what it was to run with childhood friends Through woodland glades, swinging from the trees? Remember what it was to kiss your first sweetheart Or hold a flower to your nose and smell purity? Remember what it was to draw deep lungfuls of clean air Before you discovered cigarettes and heavy traffic? Remember what it was to be untainted by the years And to care a little for everyone you met? Remember what it was to stand before God And pledge yourself to another? Remember what it was to love and be loved And feel the caress of lust? Remember what it was to feel the delightful rhythm Of a thumping heart full of passion drowning out reason? Remember what it was to hold your firstborn in your arms And know you'd created life? Remember? Never forget to wear the sun on your face And the star-flecked night as a cap. Always remember to pause once in a while And smile to yourself in wonder. For if you have experienced any of these, You'll remember not to forget what it is To be alive.
