The burning orb beckoned

Bringing hope to a republic
Whose every resource
Was within the reach
Of every able man
And the will to be free
From the tyranny and taxation
Of the wicked few -
Whose shadow followed
Always but a step behind,
Carved a nation from the big sky…
It took a century
But the shadows have arrived
And they've swallowed the sun,
Now there's nowhere to run…
And you have become the new frontier
Grazing the retail landscape
Gorging the hunger
Brought on by your boredom
And your lack of purpose
Festers creatures inside you
Fostered by the bonfire you have set
On the temple of your soul
And you are led to the slaughter-hospital
By wealthy young doctors
Accompanied by well dressed lawyers
With vampiric priests, ministers and undertakers
Bringing up the rear….
