:*:* The Punishment :*:*
The fifteen year old girl felt sharp pain
Shame washed over her again and again
In her mother's face she saw disgust
Why had she lost her mother's trust
It was no use trying to explain
Words fled in a rush from her brain
As she happily entered the front door
Her Mother was mopping the kitchen floor
The child was glad to come in from school
As her mother spoke she felt like a fool
She was not prepared for her Mother's attack
When all of a sudden she felt a sharp smack
Very quickly began the usual "Punishment"
The child grew frustrated at this torment
Her mother twisted two belts in her hands
She was forced to obey her Mom's commands
Compassion did not show in her mother's eyes
The young girl forced herself not to cry
The whips of the lashing stung her bare legs
But the child would not scream out or even beg
This time she decided to stand her ground
Bearing the "Punishment" without a sound
In the old days parents were given rights
Punishments were dealt to children forthright
Then at last the reason came to the surface
Her mother revealed to her the bad disgrace
A neighbor saw the girl walking to her gate
With a boy who happened to be her schoolmate
The lady called the mother who was very strict
Not caring if she caused a terrible conflict
Without asking questions the "Punishment" began
The mother had enough time to think up a plan
Up to this day, the sad woman thinks back
To that awful day of her mother's attack
Why was she subjected to so much cruelty?
She weeps for her Mom's lack of sensitivity

In the old days, parents kept to the golden
rule. Lashing was the common way of punishment.
By no means was it considered child abuse.
Children had to walk "chalk line".
Respect was taught by the whip.
