 African Beat
African beat
Listening to the drum beat
Of the African song
Hearing the depth of yearning
Stretched out ere long
Feels the rhythm of the drum beat
As it gathers you to the dance
Sway to the music
Feel the twitching of your feet
Let your spirit soar
To the soulful cry of the wooden flute
Your heart cries out with deepest moan
To the earthy thudding of the xylopohone
Stamp the dry ground bare
With bare dusty toes
Jingle those anklet's bells
Rattle the bracelets of shells
Hold the rhythm of the beat
Feel it sinking into your bones
Touch the rawness
Bleeding feet on sharp tiny stones
Taste the redness of the earth
Daubed across your lips
Feel the heat of the gaily
Coloured cloths draped at your hips
Dance to the African beat
Thrill to the excitement of its pure majesty
Music to take you away
A perfect end to the day
