The perfect cup of tea is a delicate operation
It requires verve and patience and love
Not just a matter of boiling the kettle and
Into it a tiny tea bag we shove.
No, the whole thing is very regimented
Arranging correct implements as nice as you please
The tea-pot, the strainer, the delicate china cup
Of course, the tea, and no, it doesn't grow on trees.
Boil the kettle, take the lid off the said tea-pot
Pour a small amount of scalding water right in
Swish it around to warm the pot up
Tip it out, and then let's begin.
A spoonful of loose tea for every person
Plus another, that's "one for the pot"
Stand back and pour the liquid in
Be careful, it's very, very hot.
A splash of cold milk in the cup and then,
Leave the sugar bowl by the side
When the tea has steeped for four minutes then pour and
Stand back and stare at it with pride.
