HIBERNATION
The rain it poured and
The wind howled cruel
So we dug ourselves in deep.
Warm burrows underneath
Pulling in foliage
And moss and leaves,
Packing it tightly
Till home was secure and safe.
With a collection of nuts
And other tasty bits, we had
Enough food to stave
Off the bleak winter season.
Tucked in firmly
Babies by our side
We slid into sleep and
For several months we would hide.
Cosily staying put
Till the cuckoo called his tune, then
Out we shall venture
But not a day too soon.
