COUNTDOWN
Welcome to October
A month that I adore
Chilled toes and fingers
A spattering of ice on the floor
I love shopping for scarves
And gloves and hats
But what I hadn't reckoned on
Was yuletide merchandise in stacks
Every corner I turned
Every shelf I looked upon
Plump christmas puddings
Weighing a fair mighty ton
Rich fruit cakes with
Leery Santa figure sat on top
Enough packs of stuffing
To fill a feathered crop
The top rack was groaning
Under an elephantine collection of chocs
Not one tin but four hundred
And a feast of fruit ‘n nut blocks
The bugle has blown
The countdown has begun
Christmas starts earlier
But too soon for some!
