AUTUMN FEELINGSFramed resplendently against the backdrop of a chilled and greying sky Stands a strong and sturdy oak tree, beautiful Yet shivering defiantly in the bleak raw wind that blows around its wooden form As autumn casts its magic spell, the branches flutter Holding on tentatively to those reaching arms is a myriad of brightly coloured jewels And while the strong boughs tremble in a very noble fashion A wondrous shower of the golden gems Are liberated gently from their summer perches With a hushed ending to sunnier months long gone A riotous cluster of varying shades are spilt from the once green hues Welcoming the pre-ordained arrival of colder months Our mood and joyous smiles broaden as we spy a tiny grey squirrel Foraging speedily in the undergrowth lay deeply beneath our feet He is oblivious to our silent presence as he continues searching For the tasty morsels required for his provisions till next year We tug at our flapping coat collars and button them firmly in place Then draw each other closer So close that even the wind, in its blustery fashion Cannot separate our warmth of feelings Every few steps of our afternoon stroll finds us a new vision to stop and gaze Though loving embrace cannot be unlocked Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
