The Unfairness Of Angels
Email Poem | Today's Poetry

 A bundle of furry comfort
Within my home of which laughter once sang
Echoes of emptiness make shadows on my wall
Pictures of happy times and happy people stand still
The light upstairs is mine, but darkness lays underneath
Once where friends once gathered, only dust gathers now
Memories upon memories upon memories
Sail through the white walls of bricks and cement
Englands green and pleasant land still grows outside
Where loved ones lay under its fertile soil
Haunted by circumstance, a prisoner by circumstance
My sentence unknown, I admit loneliness
Except for one loyal, loving breathing creature
Small and unknowing of the worlds torments
Non verbal but in its eyes and actions, speaks a million love songs
Comfort and rewarding to I, a mortal man
For he keeps watch, he sleeps upon my bed
A gentle paw upon my face, for it is not human
For no human has ever shown me such affection
No games, no hidden meanings, no words of bitterness
No rewards for good behaviour
Alone in my home, that once was
Is me and my cat
A bundle of furry comfort
