I just graduated from high school
Vietnam was starting to come to a boil
It seemed Uncle Sam wanted us
\so he set up a draft or lottery
I had a number on a chit
I was classified 1 a
But I was cool not a fool
Soon I would be sent from American soil
To go help calm that Vietnam fuss
I enlisted to avoid that darn old lottery
I was concerned of my religious fit
Wanted to do my bit for the USA
I went to San Diego not to school
But to boot camp to be a marine was my toil
They yelled and pushed to get us off the bus
They over whelmed with their shoutery
My Gear especially my boots were a bad fit
As I tried to tell them when they asked OK?
They screamed and carried on like damn fools
They called us maggots and goils
They marched us off in a Huss
Atten hut was called by our DI SSgt slaughtery
He said “everything you know ain't worth spit
You will be tested in every imaginable way
A Marine will emerge, a special fighting tool
A Gentlemen whether here or on foreign soil
You will be sent to fight in war or just a fuss
To kill the enemy doesn't mean break all the pottery
Do what you must to come home after it
He smiled and said “GOD BLESS MY Marine Corps and The USA”
