THE PLACES I'VE LIVED
For I have lived in many places
And I wonder if those walls
Remember my name.
Did my soul leave a shred
Of my primitive being
Within the mortar.
Did my step leave the dust
Of ages past
And happier times
When that roof
Was my home.
Is the tone
Of my word
Embedded in the bricks
And fibre of previous shelters.
For,
In their turn,
My everyday existence
Was in their sanctuary.
