RETURNING
Like stepping into an old slipper
All comfortable and tatty and worn
The feeling is familiar
The friendship to be reborn
Such silly words we said and
Upsetting they did sound
The hurt and tears they caused us
Lined faces grey and frowned
We moped around all day feeling
Tired out and forlorn
Those once beautiful conversations
All tattered and torn
But memories take us back to
A time when we laughed plenty
But then a curtain came down
Our words echoed loud and empty
That time we will try to move now
To distant parts of our mind
Re-establishing a previous closeness
Our friendship again will be true and kind
