When some man hurt you,
It wasn't all of them…
so when you unknowingly place all of mankind
in the same basket ask yourself
Who do you want him or
Any of them to be?
He could be your father
Or your son
He could be your brother
Or your best friend
They aren't all the monster
You claim them to be.
So when we women
Speak of those men
That have hurt us
We must find a way
To not include
The good men
With the rest of them.
If words are power
And emotional
And verbal abuse
Are worse than
Physically beating someone
Then we must watch our words ladies
So that we do not become
The abusers we accuse
Others of being,
For the verbal lashing
Leaves no evidence
Of our passing through
Their lives.
It's not just men
Who need to stop beating women
They need to stop beating themselves
Just as much as we do…
We all need healing
We all need forgiveness
We all need to see
From both the men and women
In our lives positive
And loving
Words and ways of being
With one another…
So that little girls
And little boys
Have images imprinted on their
Impressionable minds
What it means to be
A decent human being…
Maybe we will have a chance
To heal not just the future children
But our inner little ones too.
