Awaiting Spring's return
A melancholy touch
A whisper in my ear
A memory of quiet beauty
Is what I long to hear
Oh to listen to the gentle wind
Feel the sun upon my face
To feel the touch of warm rain
Know that spring has returned again
To hear the incessant drip
Of slowly melting ice
Gushing rivers onward go
No longer tightly encased in snow
But these are just a lingering memory
Of how things once were
Now the endless winter holds sway
It is all I have to get through the day
Those balmy days are gone now
All I can do is recall
The touch of dappled sunlight
Instead of cold snowfall
Winter comes, an onslaught
Within its folds I'm caught
Encased in solid coldness
No time for emotional thought
I must claw back the daylight
When everything seemed so real
Now I am cold, so empty
Unable to feel
The numbness is encompassing
As I slowly shut down
Curled up in a corner
Unable to think or dream
My dreams are ones of emptiness
Where I wander alone
Calling ever out to the night
Wishing for the return of light
An emptiness so full
It sits heavy on my soul
Unknowing which way to turn now
I no longer have a goal
The path is so obscured
Covered over with deep laid snow
I am lost
Which way do I go?
Spring swift be your return
Bring joyfulness and warmth
Let me find my path again
Until then my heart will yearn
