What Now…?

Christmas is over,
The goose has gotten fat,
No-one put a penny...
In the old man's hat!

The musician played all day,
Outside the freezer shop,
No-one took any notice,
They had no time to stop!

The poor mans cap stayed empty,
But never did he moan,
Just stayed and played Christmas music,
Until the time came to go home.

But did he have a home?
Or did he live on the street?
No bed to keep him warm,
Or slippers for his feet!

His shoes were full of holes,
His frozen toes peeped through,
Did the people notice?
Did they even have a clue?

So once again, Christmas Eve,
Peace and goodwill to all,
But did the people care?
When the old man had a fall?

Someone saw and picked him up,
Bought socks for his feet,
Filled his hat with money,
So the poor old man could eat!

So when you see a busker,
Please don't pass him by,
Without throwing him a copper or two,
And please, don't ask him 'why!'

It may not be his fault?
He has no home to call his own,
No job, or even family?
Just a beggar, all-alone!

So, Christmas is over...
The goose has all but gone,
Please remember the poor old man,
For him it wasn't fun!
