A PonyGirl Signature One year ago she found it, a tiny little lump She never gave a second thought, no time for any slump A husband and three children were always on her mind Any thoughts about herself, she chose to leave behind Christmas at the beach last winter, such a happy time Life for them so rich and full, everything was fine Only two weeks later her health began to fail Weak and always tired, looking thin and pale She went to see a Doctor the prognosis was so grim Immediately radiation and the chemo. would begin Hair fell out in gobs she laughed at all the change Anything but lovely, for her would be so strange One morning she awoke and found three remaining hairs Decided she would braid them with a happy air She went about her day smiling at people everywhere Next morning she awoke to find just two hairs remained Decided to wear piggy tails and cheer the world again Next morning she looked in the mirror to find a single hair A pony tail for me today is what I'll choose to wear She spent each day so full of smiles, showed people life and love Her fading health ignored, God confidence rose above The fourth day she jumped out of bed; giving her pain no care Looked into the mirror to see; now she had no hair She smiled warm and bright in such a cheerful way Said its fun for me , I don't have to do hair today This smiling, cheerful mommy lived only ten more weeks Cherishing her family with kisses on their cheeks They know she is in Heaven, just out of their reach They think of her together on the pretty beach Daddy always there for them every night and day With their love, and help from Jesus they know they will find a way They gave their lives to Jesus and they know someday In Heaven with their Mommy, someday again they'll play *Authors note: The picture from Pony girl and a story from the Dr. Laura Slesinger radio program inspired me to write this poem. I didn't experience this situation but I have friends dealing with breast cancer now. I am praying for them.
