Aftermath of an affair
Oh God,
My guilt has overwhelmed me
like a burden too heavy to bear
I know not what else to do
than to humble myself in prayer
Be merciful in your anger
include grace amid your wrath
Forgive me for turning to her
and straying onto her path
First her speech was sweet like honey
In the end words sharp as a sword
That sliced discord among the brethren
an abomination unto you Lord
I allowed lust to control my mind
was captivated by lying eyes
Believing that she really cared
ignoring betrayal between her thighs
Like an ox going to the slaughter
or a deer stepping into a noose
I didn't know it could lead to death
by romancing a harlot who's loose
Many are the victims she brought down
Her home is the highway to hell
She seduced many with her smooth talk
making promises never to tell
My God please keep her far from me
and in this world may you allow
only those people who love you
the true meaning of "a new life now"
Hatred stirs up dissensions
but faithful love covers all wrongs
unless it involves an adulteress
then no such kind of love belongs
Forever punished the two of us
now comes the shame from adultery
Like a burden too heavy to bear
My guilt has overwhelmed me
