How Dare You

How Dare You?

Who are you to tell me how I can succeed
And what I can be passionate about?
Who are you stamp out any child's dreams
For the sake of trying to beat this cruel world to the punch
Are you trying to save me from some future disappointment?
How dare you?
How dare you try to place your fears and limitations on me!?
You say that you can only love one person
But God is not limited and if I am a child of God
Would I not be as blessed as my father God and mother Earth to love the whole world as much as they?
Just because you are limited in heart would you
Place that on me to save me heartache?
Do you not know that the greater pain that beats in my heart is the limitations of love that we place on one another in this world and that I cry for your sake, not my own?
I cry for you…
Not my own sake
I cry because
Of what you do to your children
And what you do to me
For what you believe to be the sake of love
To hurt your children
To beat down their passions
And their dreams
So that they can conform to the cruel and bitter reality
And try to be happy with less
Than they dare to dream.
So I dare to dream to be passionate for more than one thing at once.
I dare to love poetry and art, and people, and speaking, and performing, and writing and imagining, and leading and inspiring…
I dare to do it and be happy
And be fulfilled
And to make both myself and others happy…

And I am angry because the bitterness of the world has found fertile ground
In the hearts of good intentioned and well meaning people
Just like you, to tell me, that how many people I love is wrong
That who I love is not culturally acceptable
That in order to be successful
I have to focus on less…

I will keep the council of my own heart
The wisdom of my own intuition
And the drive and passion for the things that I love
Which are gifts from god,

God help us if we can forgive ourselves
From the sins of our elders
Being passed on to us all
Give us the strength and the wisdom
To change.
