Just Think About ItCalled into a house one day To see a woman about a job~ She had asked for some painting done And I needed to earn a bob~ I caught her scrubbing the porch With a bucket of soapy water~ And being watched by a little one She had five boys and a daughter~ She said to me as she looked up Just look at me will you~ I was once an attractive woman Now look at me and tell me true~ Did I shave my very legs for this Did i once always dress mt best~ For I guy I once thought fab With a bear like hairy chest~ Did I always wait on him hand and foot And at his very beck and call~ And now , Here I am scrubbing boards And mopping out this longest hall~ Picking up his dirty clothes And cleaning hair from bath and sink~ Picking up his old work socks I really do not think~ All the kids but one are at school Soon this place will be world war three~ He comes in after a hard days work he says So drunk he don't even know me~ Asking is his dinner cooked as yet And all these screaming kids to boot~ Did I intend to eventually end up here No I did not , married to this coot~ I look back and wish I could Go back to those days my chum~ Did i go to all that trouble for this Wished I had listened to my mum~ But then again the postman don't look bad And the milkman looks pretty good~ They after all life's what you make it Tell me mate do you think I should~ Did I do all that to end up here A slave to a bloke thats never home~ Well I've been thinking about it mate And I got some new plans of my own~ Terrence Michael Sutton Copyright 2008 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
