My first best friend it was Christmas time
Second grade, I drew his name he drew mine
I always wanted a baseball mitt I couldn't afford
There was an off sale the day I scored
Now he wanted a slingshot he was always a hunter
We exchanged our gifts and both began to wonder
Now he was showing me in class how to use my gift
When the marble I shot--well it went adrift
We got to know each other that day in detention
And the window we broke to my mom I'd never mention
Now my friend and I were friends we thought forever more
Went in the Air force together each sent to a different shore
One day he came to my house, and yes, I was married then
For a dollar transfered his car and we never saw him again
Ran into a mutual friend and he said really don't you know
He loved both you and your wife and those feelings had to go
