The name of Jacob means trickster
He was a crafty crook and a deceiver Not wanting to wait for God's plan He took matters into his own hands Jacob took advantage of his brother Doing it in an evil way like no other He stole Esau's birthright with stew It was a very dishonest thing to do Their father was almost totally blind So Jacob played tricks with his mind When the time came to bless his sons Jacob wanted to be sure he was the one As if he was Esau, he went to hunt game Rachel prepared it be exactly the same Dressed like Esau, putting hair on his face He received his father's blessing and grace Jacob was the fool as he was ready to marry For Uncle Laban's plan caused him to tarry He had two daughters and the deal was this Work seven years for each one and no less Jacob loved the youngest one, Rachel, the best It may be a high price to pay, but worth the rest The seven years went fast and soon were through He was upset when it was Leah he was married to Tricked by Uncle Laban, it seemed to be his fate Work another seven years and Rachel would wait There is a little of Jacob in all of us from time to time But God is very patient with us by His power divine Based on the true Biblical account recorded in Genesis 25, 27, and 29 © by Carol Salter on 2/11/08 Vote for this poem
