Poetry For Everyday People
Wrong And Right
Sweet candy
in my mouth
wine in
my mouth
cold Guinness in
my mouth
screams locked up
in my mouth
words simple true
yet hell in my mouth
certain words
I can only
paint on paper
my mind has always
been too clever for me
complicated and unwilling
to look the other way
my eyes seeing
beyond the wall
beyond the wink
I'm walking out
and leaving the cash
on the table
I can't do that man
going home
and tearing up
our electric bill
checking in on our son
sleeping
locking the door
all the windows
set the alarm
set out lunch money
hug my wife
knowing I'm not
gonna sleep a wink
drinking one last one
as she drifts off
Sweet candy
in my mouth
wine in
my mouth
cold Guinness in
my mouth
life on my mind
tearing me up
home
sweet
home.
in my mouth
wine in
my mouth
cold Guinness in
my mouth
screams locked up
in my mouth
words simple true
yet hell in my mouth
certain words
I can only
paint on paper
my mind has always
been too clever for me
complicated and unwilling
to look the other way
my eyes seeing
beyond the wall
beyond the wink
I'm walking out
and leaving the cash
on the table
I can't do that man
going home
and tearing up
our electric bill
checking in on our son
sleeping
locking the door
all the windows
set the alarm
set out lunch money
hug my wife
knowing I'm not
gonna sleep a wink
drinking one last one
as she drifts off
Sweet candy
in my mouth
wine in
my mouth
cold Guinness in
my mouth
life on my mind
tearing me up
home
sweet
home.
