 the gypsy poet

history in the making


  under the greenwood tree
      where Tess was young
      and love was free
      by yonder dorset walk
      and hawthorn tree
      where Florrie danced with me

      neath castle moat and village down
      the wayward children gathered around
      while wool durbridge hall
      was close to the sack of common lore

      the stream where tom brown schooldays was filmed
      nearby the village hall where Tess retired
      in wool bridge purbeck stone so old
      the extras came in village clothes

      old samways and wareham lasses too
      the film crew stayed nearby at Poole
      the winding rivers and hills so steep
      the shepherd boys and village sheep
      the hardy book
      the corn exchange of wareham town
      history in the making of
