I hear songs on the radio
About Countries Getten Big These Days~
Well non would never have sang a country song
If Gene Autry didnt have his way~
He brought country to Australia
When the oldest was not much more than a boy~
Back in the earliest days of when
A guitar to most young ones was just a toy~
It was Gene who wrote you are my sunshine
And a lot of others too~
Along with the likes of Jimmy rogers
And in Australia Tim Macnamurra and a few~
Good old Roy rogers and Dale
Back when they sang and rode~
When country was and as it always will be
The sound of a horses gate going down a road~
Like Buddy Williams in Australia he once wrote that
Theres music in my ponies feet~
A sound that was the birth of country music
Thanks to likes of Gene Autry and a sound so neat~
We all had our heros then back when
Like many others who still have a memory~
And before many of us had even left school
They sang country on that ever lonesome prarie~
So let us all remember away back when
Country music realy did back then begin-
And the time it turned up in Australia
Sang by the likes of Keven shegog and Keven king-
Back when many sang their hearts out so
And started writing country music grand-
After which every body wanted to do like wise
As it made it's way around the land-
The early days of country music
I remember singing an oldest song to mum-
About a rabbit running around a mulberry bush
And how at me being 6 she'd just jig and hum-
Now they are right about one thing
Countries getten big these days~
But it was gene Autry who gave it to us
Back in the days of Gabby Hayes~
