The Shield
Worn by those who chose to serve
The Shield of honor all have deserved
For they would bare and see the scars
Of pain and death that holds no bar
The Shield will wake each day like you
The job will test patience pursued
For in it's hands balanced is life
Their own, the public, family and wife
The Shield of Silver worn by the proud
Would serve notice, sadly somehow
Falls short in eyes cold fixed and hard
By thugs plotting to deal deaths card
The Shield will undertake each day
Pressure surely on knees it prays
For GOD to guide today's affairs
To end long shifts and work they bare
Peace sometimes is less than more
Upon the Shield, where death may score
The loss of one, one more Blue Knight
That won't be coming home tonight
The Shield tested deserves respect
Sometimes spat on, with great neglect
But still will rise to serve above
The minds that think it's less of
The Shield weathers the storms that batter
The lives that view what truly matters
To serve a public that may not see
What GOD baptized it valiantly
The Shield is her and him in blue
The Shield has sworn to protect you
The Shield was forged by God's own hands
The Shield, Godsend, upon our land
Dedicated to The Philadelphia Police Department
On behalf of Wyoming Ave Baptist Church
