There is this one last thing I long to see
My ole childhood home welcoming me
Thoughts of my mama saying, "I love you"
Aromas in the air, Pa's cup of brew
A prayer before breakfast, "God bless us"
The walk down the drive to wait for the bus
Stalking the fields in my pursuit for prey
Paint on the fence from a 12-hour day
Hoeing the garden with crops lined in rows
These fond moments only a young boy knows...
Thank you Lord for this precious gift to me
This thing that people call a memory
That takes me back to better days gone by
I hope to return or at least must try
I think of the blessings you gave to me
Those tender moments when I could not see
Now I am much older and wiser too
And now my ripened heart is right with you
So dear Lord please answer this one prayer
And allow me to one day go back there...
Where the rooster's crow helps welcome the morn
Fog hovers low as a new day is born
Watching the sun breaking over the trees
A kiss on the cheek from a gentle breeze
God paints a picture, a sight to behold
Birds sing upon tops of shimmering gold
Sounds of lost leaves as the autumn wind blows
These fond moments only an old man knows...
There is this one last thing I long to see
My ole childhood home welcoming me
This was another entry in a poetry contest where I had to write a poem for the picture provided. I wish i could add the picture but i can't.
