"Yes, I am Cherokee"
Yes, I am proud, I am Cherokee
I have my ancestors blood in me
They fought for what was right . . .
And now the Cherokee, are free
I feel their strength, from within
My Forefathers, who strived to win
They struggled so, with much torment
But,The Great White Spirit. . .
Went where they went
So very many, of the Cherokee died
As well as Indians, from other nations
Many tears, maidens and children cried
As Braves, seethed at white man's regulations
I can only imagine the sadness and sorrow
For inside, they were the same as any other
Trying to live for today, and tomorrow
Working together . . . Helping their brother
For inside, our hearts are colored the same
Not . . . red, tan, white brown nor black
Why are we separated by beliefs or name
When we should be united together
Watching one anothers back . . .
I often think about the "Trail of Tears"
Where they were sorely put through a test
Proudly . . . facing all doubts and fears
Onward,no compassion shown, and no rest
Yes, I am proud to be part, Cherokee
And my feeling's for my people, is strong
They live like others,in the "Land of the Free"
To, "Great White Spirit" I sing a praise song!
